Dynamic carotid plaque imaging using ultrasonography

چکیده
ObjectiveDynamic image analysis of carotid plaques has demonstrated that during systole and early diastole, all plaque components will move in the same direction (concordant motion) some plaques. However, others, different parts directions (discordant motion). The aim our study was (1) to determine prevalence discordant motion symptomatic asymptomatic plaques, (2) develop a measurement severity motion, (3) correlation between symptom prevalence.MethodsA total 200 patients with 204 resulting 50% 99% stenosis (112 92 plaques) had video recordings available 10 cardiac cycles. Video tracking performed using Farneback's method, which relies on frame comparisons. In study, these were at 0.1-second intervals. maximum angular spread (MAS) vectors 10-pixel intervals area measured degrees. Plaques classified as concordant (MAS, <70°), moderately 70°-120°), >120°).ResultsMotion 89.1% but only 17.9% (P < .001). symptoms increased increasing MAS. For MAS >120°, hazard ratio for presence 47.7 (95% confidence interval, 18.1-125.6) compared rest after adjustment degree mean pixel motion. under receiver operating characteristic curve prediction 0.876 0.823-0.929). use median (120°) cutoff point 86% correctly (sensitivity, 81.4%; specificity, 91.2%; positive predictive value, 90.2%; negative 83.0%).ConclusionsThe value identify risk developing and, particular, stroke should be tested prospective studies.

Evaluation of Carotid Plaque Using Ultrasound Imaging
Traditional risk factors for predicting of cardiovascular disease are not always effective predictors for development of cardiovascular events. This review summarizes several newly developed noninvasive imaging techniques for evaluating carotid plaques and their role in cardiovascular disease risk.
متن کاملDetection of Carotid Plaque Symptoms Using Ultrasound Imaging
Carotid plaques are one of the commonest causes of neurological symptoms due to embolization of plaque components or flow reduction. The classification of plaques vulnerability is then a relevant clinical issue, and a technical challenge. Recently, several atherosclerotic plaque characterization methods were proposed based on plaque morphology assessed through 2D ultrasound. One of these method...
متن کاملCarotid artery plaque characterization using CT multienergy imaging.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Carotid artery plaque types can be categorized with CT according to their HU values. The purpose of this work was to analyze carotid artery plaque characteristics by using multienergy imaging. METHODS AND MATERIALS Thirty-two consecutive patients (23 men; median age, 70 years) were retrospectively analyzed. Carotid arteries were studied with a multienergy CT scanner. Al...
متن کاملPreoperative detection of the composition of atherosclerotic plaque in the carotid artery using ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging.
Preoperative identification of the components of atherosclerotic plaque was attempted using ultrasonography in five patients and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging in three patients before carotid endarterectomy. The correlation between surgical and histological findings, and preoperative ultrasonography and MR imaging was evaluated. Plaque consisting predominantly of calcification appeared as bri...
متن کاملMolecular Imaging of Carotid Plaque Vulnerability
Background: Carotid endarterectomy (CEA) has been shown to be beneficial in patients with high-grade symptomatic carotid artery stenosis. Patients with high-grade asymptomatic stenosis may only exceptionally benefit from CEA during periods of increased plaque vulnerability. Imaging modalities to characterize unstable, vulnerable plaques are strongly needed for better risk stratification in thes...
